If you are not sure your device is compatible check with your device manufacturer. A compatible 802.11b WiFi network card can be purchased from your local computer dealer.

Coverage is provided throughout the International Terminal, including the airline lounges, food courts and departure and arrivals areas. In Terminal 2, coverage is provided throughout the terminal once you have passed the check-in and screening areas. This includes the Qantas Club lounge, the Virgin Blue Room, and the Rex Lounge.

Step 1

Once you enable the wireless 802.11b capability on your device (laptop computer, PDA or the like), you will detect several wireless networks. These will be identified by the SSID and are as follows:

SSID ISP Partner or Network
sydneyairport.com    Sydney Airport (limited access)
yes optus OPTUS (un-restricted Internet Access)
Telstra Telstra (un-restricted Internet Access)

The public access throughout the airport do not use any security or encryption mechanisms, so please ensure you disable WEP, WiFi Protected Access (WPA) and any form of authentication (such as 802.1X).

The connection to the Sydney Airport network is free and open. No form of logon is needed. You will automatically be directed to the Sydney Airport website which provides information regarding airport services, flight arrival and departure information, shopping and other local information. This network does not provide access to the Internet.

Connections to the Telstra or Optus networks do require a user login after you connect. The login will be presented by redirecting your first web page to the ISP login. You will need an account from one of these service providers, or from one of their roaming partners. There is a charge for this connection.

Step 2

After you associate with your preferred wireless network you will be assigned a valid IP Address. In order for this to happen the TCP/IP Properties for your wireless network card should be set to Obtain an IP Address automatically and Obtain a DNS Server Address automatically.

Step 3

To configure your Internet browser for optimum performance ensure that the LAN connection settings has all proxy settings disabled.

Step 4

To logon to the high speed internet service provided by SACL's partner providers, launch your internet browser. You will automatically be re-directed to a portal logon screen. If you do not see the portal logon screen, refresh your browser page. If you are still not presented with the portal screen then you should make sure your browser is pointed to an Internet address and not an Intranet site inside your workplace.

Type your Username and Password. After a successful logon your browser will be redirected to a welcome page that will launch your home Web page or the last entry in your internet browser before you were redirected to the logon screen.

Further instructions regarding connection times, logging out and such are typically displayed on the provider portal screen after your login is completed.

Step 5

To Logout you can simply let your session time out. To instantly logout click on the disconnect or logout button.

If you need more specific instructions on your wireless configuration please use the ISP Partner links or consult your local computer dealer.
