Promoting and delivering sustainable transport

Sustainable transport provides our visitors with more choice, while reducing our impact on the environment. We're committed to promoting sustainable transport solutions, including public and active transport. Sydney Airport is already served by two railway stations offering 13-minute trips to the city, and has a bus service and cycling facilities.

We regularly engage with the NSW Government to continue to advocate for improvements to public and sustainable transport modes.

Recent significant achievements

In recent years, we've worked closely with the NSW Government to encourage the introduction of additional public transport services. In late 2013 and 2014, the government announced its commitment to expand bus services to service the airport, as well as plans to increase the number of trains between the airport and the City Circle.

Following approval of the Master Plan 2033, we've begun work on a range of ground transport initiatives to improve access to and from airport by car, taxi or public transport. This will benefit our passengers, visitors and staff, as well as Sydney motorists generally.

Our ground transport plan was announced in June 2014 and includes transformative roadworks at T1 International, T2 and T3 Domestic terminals, as well as a ground transport interchange and multimodal storage and car park facility. Our on-airport works will complement and be integrated with the government’s proposed roadworks in areas around the airport.

Other recent significant achievements include:

• providing bicycle parking racks at all terminals, along with showering facilities at T1
• requiring major new developments, such as the Rydges Hotel, to have showering facilities for commuting staff
• continuing to advocate for reform of the station access fee arrangements at the T1 and T2/T3 railway stations to encourage increased travel by rail

Future directions

We're committed to:

• increasing the percentage of airport visitors using public transport by 30% from 2013-2019, and by just over 40% from 2013-2033
• implementing cycleway improvements in cooperation with state and local agencies. Cycling links to and from Sydney Airport have been listed as a priority in the Sydney's Cycling Future document released by the NSW Government late in 2013
• implementing our ground transport plan for our airport precinct
