Celebrate the joy of Christmas this year at Sydney Airport, with free giveaways and entertainment right through to 25 December.

“Christmas is a family celebration and for thousands of people this year, Christmas will start at the airport,” Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said.

“This is our busiest time of year and customers should leave additional time when travelling to the airport and where possible, check-in online at home so all you have to do is drop off your bags.

“We’ve also installed additional SmartGates at Customs in time for Christmas and we’d encourage eligible passport holders to use them. “The weekend before Christmas (22-23 December) will be the busiest time of year at the international terminal, while passengers will peak at the T2 domestic terminal on Christmas Eve.

“We will have extra staff throughout Christmas to help during the peak period.

“Remember, there are plenty of options for travelling to the airport, including the AirportLink service, which takes just 15 minutes from the CBD.

“If you’re picking up family or friends or dropping them off at the airport over the coming weeks, we have two new great value parking deals that mean you won’t have to rush and can enjoy our full entertainment program.

“Park for up to three hours at the international terminal for $20 or $18 for up to two hours at the domestic terminal.

“We will have entertainment every day leading up to Christmas and this year’s program includes the Police Band, the Salvation Army Choir and the Aurora Australis Chorus.

A full schedule of the entertainment program is on the Sydney Airport website.

 Sydney Airport is giving away 23,000 gifts – from free coffee to iPod shuffles to digital cameras to a $2,000 diamond and opal pendant from Opal Fields – in our random acts of kindness campaign at T1 international this year.

“We’ll be randomly surprising customers at the international terminal with 23,000 gifts from now until Christmas,” Ms Mather said.

Finally, the Sydney Airport Community’s Giving Tree appeal is raising money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation this Christmas and customers can help by:

  • Getting their presents wrapped at our gift wrap bars at T1 and T2* for a gold coin donation;
  • Purchasing a $10 overnight bag, with $5 from the sale of each bag to go to Starlight; or,
  • Purchasing Starlight merchandise or making a donation at one of the many collection points throughout the terminal – look out for the purple boxes.

“Starlight helps thousands of families every year and this Christmas, the Sydney Airport community is working together to help Starlight grant 154 wishes to sick and hospitalised children,” Ms Mather said.

*Gift wrapping at T2 to commence on 20 December.
