• New Sydney-Gold Coast service starts today
• More capacity and services from Sydney Airport, promoting competition and value on Australia’s most popular domestic routes
Services have commenced from Tiger’s new Sydney base, with the airline to add up to 10 additional return flights a week to Sydney.
“Tiger setting up a base in Sydney will support improved domestic traffic performance in the second half,” Sydney Airport chief executive Kerrie Mather said.
“Tiger’s low fares to Australia’s most popular destinations have driven competition and real value for travellers.
“Australians have taken to low cost carriers both in the international and domestic markets and Tiger’s resurgence is well-timed.
“Low cost doesn’t mean low service however and indeed Tiger has achieved industry-leading on-time performance since resuming services last year.
Tiger’s new Gold Coast service starts today and a new service to Brisbane will start in August, while Tiger will provide additional capacity on the popular Sydney-Melbourne route.
Three A320s will progressively call Sydney home between July and September.
“We worked closely with Destination NSW to attract Tiger’s new base to Sydney because of the positive effects on tourism and we’re confident that its decision to leverage Sydney’s cache as Australia’s premier destination will benefit Tiger’s ambitious growth plan,” Ms Mather said.
