Sydney Airport to expand passenger pick-up options at T2/T3 Domestic precinct
  • Greater choice, more space and improved convenience to enhance the airport experience
  • New, under cover passenger pick-up zone offers longer free parking time and expanded number of car spaces
  • In response to passenger demand, new pick-up zones identified for ridesharing services
  • Changes to take effect from 19 July

Sydney Airport is planning to implement new arrangements for motorists picking up passengers at the T2/T3 Domestic precinct to provide greater choice, more space and improved convenience.

The new pick-up arrangements will be implemented on Tuesday, 19 July, following an extensive consultation process and public information campaign, to ensure all airport users are informed of the passenger-focused solution.

Under the new arrangements, the free passenger pick-up option will be expanded, and more pick-up options will be made available to cater for new and emerging ridesharing services such as UberX and GoCar in response to passenger demand.

The benefits of these new arrangements include:

  • Increasing the free pick-up time limit by 50%, from 10 minutes to 15 minutes, to allow more time to pick up friends and relatives;
  • Relocating the free passenger pick-up area to the P3 undercover multi-storey car park, increasing capacity to 700 spaces and improving accessibility; and
  • Introducing a one hour free parking option at the Blu Emu Car Park which services both T2 and T3 direct via a free shuttle bus.

Sydney Airport is committed to providing a positive experience at the airport by extending the free passenger pick-up facility to 700 undercover spaces and providing access to a range of improved transport options,” General Manager Parking and Ground Transport Craig Norton said.

“The new, under cover passenger pick-up area at T2/T3 offers 50% more free parking time and significantly more car spaces, making it even easier to pick up friends and relatives at the airport.

“We have also introduced new pick-up zones to accommodate pre-booked commercial operators, including ridesharing services, in response to passenger demand.”

Sydney Airport is committed to continuously expanding the extensive range of transport options to and from the airport, including private cars, taxis, limousines, rental cars, trains, buses, ridesharing services, and active transport such as cycling and walking.

New shared priority pick-up zone

The general public and all other pre-booked operators will also have the option of picking up from a new shared priority pick-up zone opposite the terminals for a fee of $4 for 15 minutes, with convenient payment via eTag.

This is in addition to the range of car parking options available at the airport for people who wish to park and stay longer, including savings for those who pre-book their parking online.

Pre-booked commercial operators access

The new pick up arrangements have been designed to accommodate pre-booked commercial operators, including:

Limousines; Ridesharing services such as UberX and GoCar; and Pre-booked taxis. As well as the new shared priority pick-up zone, commercial pre-booked operators who are registered with Sydney Airport will be able to access the existing pick-up zone located kerbside at the terminals, which is currently reserved exclusively for limousines.

Sydney Airport has developed these new arrangements as a passenger-focused solution to the changing operational landscape of pre-booked commercial services, including the imminent official legalisation of ridesharing services by the NSW Government.

Taxis, buses and trains

There will be no change to arrangements to the taxi ranks directly outside the terminals or accessible pick-up spaces at T2/T3. There is also no change to express pick-up at T1.

There will be no change to arrangements for access to bus and train services across the airport.
