  • Award recognises significant investment in ongoing safety improvements
  • Sydney Airport is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all airport users

Sydney Airport has won the Australian Airports Association (AAA) Project – Major Airport Award for its incident and emergency management strategy as part of Airport Safety Week 2016.

“It’s our priority to deliver the highest levels of safety and security for our passengers, staff and stakeholders,” Sydney Airport Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said.

“We’re thrilled that our strong safety culture has been recognised through this Airport Safety Week award and we’re very proud of our people’s commitment to living our safety values in their daily work.

“We’ll continue to drive improvement in the areas of safety and security as part of our vision to provide a world-class airport experience.”

Sydney Airport’s incident and emergency management strategy has significantly enhanced safety at the airport through new tools, technology and initiatives such as an improved communications system; better weather tracking and forecasts; and greater collaboration with airport stakeholders.

Sydney Airport has also significantly invested in a new, state-of-the-art operations centre, which will support the airport’s planning and management of significant events by delivering greater operational resilience, flexibility, scalability and collaboration in a dynamic operating environment.

Sydney Airport sponsors Airport Safety Week, which is held from 17 to 21 October and is tailored to engage with people working in an airport environment. The targeted safety campaign is a collaboration between the AAA and the NZ Airports Association.

The Airport Safety Awards are a key part of Airport Safety Week, recognising the hard work and innovation of individuals, teams and projects to improve safety at airports across Australasia.

As part of Airport Safety Week, Sydney Airport will host a range of events for staff at the airport, including a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walk across the airfield; a safety panel to discuss Sydney Airport’s safety strategy; toolbox talks on key safety issues; and health and wellbeing initiatives.
