Hello and welcome to the first edition of CONNECTIONS for 2014.
2013 marked our busiest ever year, month and day at Sydney Airport, as we welcomed a record 38 million passengers throughout the year.
It’s also been a busy start to 2014, with many people travelling interstate and overseas for the summer holidays and Lunar New Year.
On 17 February, the Australian Government approved Sydney Airport’s Master Plan 2033 [link: http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/corporate/master-plan.aspx], which outlines our plans to develop Australia’s premier airport over the next 20 years and meet forecast demand of 74 million passengers in 2033.
The master plan consultations were the most extensive we’ve ever undertaken and we were pleased that many stakeholders – including airline passengers, Sydneysiders and the wider community – supported our proposed ground transport solutions, along with our overall master plan concept.
Our priority now is rolling out our ground transport plan. Road upgrades in the T1 precinct are already underway, with the first stage completed at the end of 2013.
We’re also busy preparing a major development plan for the road upgrades in the T2/T3 precinct, which we hope to have ready for public exhibition and further community consultation in the second half of this year.
There is certainly plenty in store for 2014 and we look forward to keeping you updated over the coming months.
