To clear the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service checkpoint you must:
- Complete and submit an incoming passenger card, and
- Complete and submit a Travel History card, and
- Present a passport, visa (if applicable), and completed incoming passenger card.
From 20 June 2016 Australia’s Arrivals SmartGates will be permanently open to eligible Chinese, Hong Kong, Macau, Japanese, Korean, French and Swedish ePassport holders.
This is a significant expansion, increasing permanent use from eight to 13 eligible countries, plus the Special Administrative Regions (SARs) Hong Kong and Macau. This milestone marks another step in Australia’s significant progress towards delivering streamlined and simplified border experiences for travellers at Australia’s international airports.
Travellers will be able to access Arrivals SmartGate if they have an eligible ePassport, are over 16 years of age and are from: Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Ireland, Japan, Korea, Macau (SAR of China), New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
If travelling with children:
- You must present a passport, visa (if applicable) and completed incoming passenger card for each person in your travelling group.
Note: In line with Australian Government regulations, mobile phones, cameras, video cameras and recording devices must not be used in Australian Customs and Border Protection Service-controlled areas at airports and seaports. If you are on the phone, you will be asked to terminate your call until you have cleared the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service-controlled area.
Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officers can and will ask you to delete any photos or film recorded if you are caught taking photos or recording in Australian Customs and Border Protection Service-controlled areas.
