Sydney Airport supporting the IMB Cook Community Classic for third year

• Annual community event helps local Shire charities and organisations
• Sydney Airport contributed $1.5 million to the community in 2014

Sydney Airport is proudly supporting the eighth annual IMB Cook Community Classic at Cronulla Beach on Sunday, 22 November.

“Sydney Airport is pleased to get behind this great family event, which brings together more than 5,000 people from the Sutherland Shire community to help local charities, clubs and organisations,” Sydney Airport managing director and chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.

“We encourage Shire locals to come along and get involved in this community initiative, from participating in the open water swim at Cronulla Beach to donating to a worthy local charity.

“Sydney Airport is committed to helping the local community, and invested $1.5 million in charities, schools, sporting clubs and local organisations last year as part of our community engagement program.”

Event Patron and Federal Member for Cook the Hon. Scott Morrison MP said the IMB Cook Community Classic relied on the support of organisations such as Sydney Airport.

“I am very grateful for the continued support from Sydney Airport of our Sutherland Shire community through the IMB Cook Community Classic. For eight years now, the Classic has delivered over $500,000 in fundraising to various grassroots community organisations,” Mr Morrison said.

“The growing success of the Classic is possible with the support from corporations like Sydney Airport. It is a great example of business and the community working together to deliver effective, meaningful social impact on many different levels. As event Patron, I am extremely grateful for the support Sydney Airport continues to provide to our Shire community.”

This is the third year Sydney Airport has been a Bronze Sponsor of the IMB Cook Community Classic, featuring a surf carnival, open water swim, beach soccer competition, children’s entertainment, live music, charity stalls and a fundraising raffle. This year, the event opened with a gala charity dinner, which raised $65,000 for 21 grassroots organisations in the Sutherland Shire.
