Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team soaring thanks to Sydney Airport

Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and Sydney Airport today announced they have partnered to support the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team.

This historic partnership with Sydney Airport is the first time a partner has supported only the women’s side, highlighting the airport’s commitment to developing women’s sport.

With a global playing schedule that covers the world’s most iconic cities such as Dubai and Sao Paulo, the Australian Women’s Sevens team already has a strong relationship with Sydney Airport.

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens captain Sharni Williams said: “When we’re at Sydney Airport, we’re either really excited about our upcoming tour, or we’re excited to be arriving back home.”

“It’s great that Sydney Airport has partnered with the national Women’s Sevens team. It’s a big step for women’s Rugby in Australia. The team is really passionate about playing great Rugby and we’re lucky that we’ve had some success recently, so hopefully that can continue with the support of Sydney Airport.”

Sydney Airport Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said: “We’re delighted to partner with the national Women’s Sevens team, and help them continue to succeed on the world stage. We wish them all the best as they prepare for the upcoming Olympics campaign.”

The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team is currently undefeated in the 2015/2016 HSBC Women’s Sevens Series, having triumphed at the Dubai event in December and then the Sao Paulo tournament in February. The side’s perfect record in the series bodes well for their looming Rio Olympics campaign which kicks off in August.
