Sydney Airport is proud to announce that Etihad Airways will operate its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000 to Sydney for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s long-standing partnership with the airline.
Starting 1 October 2025, the A350 will begin servicing Sydney, replacing the 777-300ER, with Etihad operating all 10 weekly Sydney–Abu Dhabi flights exclusively on the A350-1000 by February 2026.
The introduction of the A350 will coincide with Etihad increasing its flights from daily to 10 times a week starting 1 July 2025, giving passengers departing Sydney Airport more flexibility with a mix of afternoon and evening departure times.
Etihad’s expanded operations deliver a 20 percent increase in premium cabin capacity, reflecting strong demand from corporate, luxury, and high-end leisure travellers.
Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport, said: “We’re proud to welcome Etihad’s A350 to Sydney for the first time. This next-generation aircraft is not only more sustainable but also a strong sign of Etihad’s confidence in the Sydney market and I’d like to thank the team at Etihad for their continued support.
“The introduction of the A350, along with the increase in Etihad’s flight schedule, is fantastic news for passengers on Etihad’s longest route globally, offering them more choice and an improved travel experience.
“This addition strengthens the growing list of international airlines flying the A350 into Sydney and reinforces Sydney Airport’s position as Australia’s premier international gateway.”
The Airbus A350 is one of the most efficient aircraft types in the world, with 25 percent less fuel burn and CO2 emissions than previous models. Featuring Etihad’s latest generation Business and Economy cabins, including 44 private business suites with doors and 327 economy seats, the aircraft brings a new level of luxury and efficiency to Australia’s global gateway.
Etihad has served Sydney since 2007 and continues to grow its presence in Australia. These changes follow the conclusion of the airline’s partnership with Virgin Australia, and from 1 June 2025, Etihad passengers will enjoy continued domestic connectivity through a new interline agreement with Qantas, ensuring seamless travel across the country.
Bringing Etihad’s A350 to Sydney Airport’s international lineup will boost connectivity for Australians traveling to the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, and forms a vital part of the airport’s wider aviation strategy to provide outstanding service and a superior travel experience for all passengers.
