The launch of Hainan Airline’s new direct flight to Haikou has reinforced Sydney Airport’s global reputation as the nation’s airport of choice.

Australian travellers now have even more options when planning their next exciting holiday abroad, with the new service to Haikou, the capital of Hainan Island, commencing today.

Sydney Airport CEO Geoff Culbert welcomed the new service.

“We congratulate Hainan Airlines, China’s fourth-largest carrier, on their third destination from Sydney in two years, following the successful launch of both the Xi’an and Changsha routes,” he said.

“China is an incredibly important market and we are pleased to welcome this fantastic Hainan Airlines service to Sydney, which opens up even more opportunities in China.

“Coming off the back of the success of last year’s China-Australia Year of Tourism, we’re confident this new route will continue the strong cultural and economic ties between our nations.”

Ms Chao Guo, Deputy General Manager of Hainan Airlines’ Sydney branch, said those seeking a fantastic experience would enjoy Hainan Island’s unique attractions.

“Haikou–Sydney was chosen as the first-long haul route from Haikou once we discovered Australians’ love of Bali,” she said.

“Hainan Airlines today introduced direct flights from Sydney to Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Island, which is a holiday paradise located in the southern-most part of China.

“Beautiful beaches, high class resorts and a rich history will ensure travellers have a magical and unforgettable travel experience.

“Australians visiting Haikou, Sanya and the rest of Hainan Island also have the convenience of a visa on arrival while enjoying the service of this five-star airline."

Hainan Airlines, a Skytrax five star-rated airline, will operate twice-weekly from Sydney to Haikou using a 283-seat Airbus A330-300 in a two-class configuration.
