Sydney Airport has appointed global construction company, Multiplex, to provide construction planning and delivery expertise as the airport develops the Major Development Plan for its T2-T3 terminal project.
The T2-T3 terminal project is expected to deliver new terminal space and 12 swing gates capable of supporting domestic and international operations while improving connectivity between terminals and unlocking capacity to help deliver a more seamless passenger experience.
Sydney Airport Group Executive, Planning and Delivery, Paul Willis, said: “Bringing Multiplex into the project at this stage gives us valuable construction and delivery expertise as we continue to develop the Major Development Plan.
“This is a highly complex project in the heart of a live airport precinct. Early collaboration between the airport, designers and contractor will help us test how the project can be built and staged safely and efficiently, while minimising impacts on passengers, airlines and airport operations.
“Multiplex has a strong track record delivering complex infrastructure and major projects, and we look forward to working together to progress a terminal development that supports Sydney Airport’s long-term growth and delivers a better experience for passengers and airlines.”
Multiplex Regional Managing Director, David Ghannoum, said: “Multiplex is proud to be working with Sydney Airport on the planning of this important project. Our team brings extensive experience delivering large-scale, technically complex projects in operational environments.
“We share Sydney Airport’s commitment to safety, quality and long-term value, and are pleased to contribute our expertise to a project that will support the future of Australia’s international gateway.
“ECI is fundamental to the project's success, laying the groundwork and infrastructure needed to support future stages. This contract also reflects a highly collaborative approach that sets a new benchmark for our industry. We look forward to collaborating with Sydney Airport to help shape a clear and considered plan for the T2-T3 terminal project.”
The appointment follows Sydney Airport’s selection of Grimshaw and Mott MacDonald as lead consultants for the project. Grimshaw is leading architectural design, while Mott MacDonald is leading engineering.
The T2-T3 terminal project forms part of Sydney Airport’s $6 billion capital works program over the next five years and supports the airport’s long-term plan to accommodate forecast growth to 72 million passengers annually by 2045.
