Sydney Airport joins World’s Largest Open House
  • Event to feature exclusive airside adventure
  • Event supports super charity NSW Kids in Need

Sydney Airport will this month offer an exclusive airside adventure to raise funds for super charity NSW Kids in Need.

The behind-the-scenes tours will take place on Sunday, 30 April as part of the World’s Largest Open House event, launched in 2015.

Sydney Airport General Manager Corporate Affairs Sally Fielke said this special event gave members of the public the chance for a rare glimpse behind the scenes of Australia's international gateway airport, while supporting kids in need across NSW.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community to support six children's charities – while also taking part in a once in a lifetime experience,” Ms Fielke said.

“Our airside adventure will give people a whole new view of the airport, highlighting the work that 29,000 people across 800 different businesses on the airport do every day to keep the airport running.”

NSW Kids in Need founder and chairman Peter Debnam said Sydney Airport's involvement this year takes the popular event to a new level.

“We're thrilled to have Sydney Airport on board as a critical partner in this year's venue line-up,” Mr Debnam said.

“This is rare insight into one of the country's most fascinating public facilities.”

Sydney Airport joins locations across the state opening their doors for the event, including the Classic Car Museum, HMAS Canberra at Garden Island, Sydney CBD and Alexandria fire stations and the Mounted Police Station.

All funds raised from the day will go to six children's charities: • Bear Cottage Children’s Hospice; • The Burns Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead;

  • Central Coast Kids in Need;
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia;
  • Muscular Dystrophy NSW; and
  • SHINE for Kids

The event has raised more than $320,000 for charity over the last two years, and attracted crowds of more than 100,000 people.

Sydney Airport is proud to partner with the event as part of its commitment to living local, supporting healthy, strong and vibrant communities.

In 2016, Sydney Airport contributed $3.3 million in funding and in-kind support to charities, events, schools sporting clubs and community groups.
