Sydney Airport is committed to sustainable growth that strives to deliver long term, positive outcomes for our passengers, stakeholders, and the communities in which we operate. This is reflected in our purpose to be “A leading global airport connecting Australia” and led by our values to “Always do the right thing” and “Focus on tomorrow and today”.
Our Sustainability Strategic Approach is focused on three strategic pillars;
- Drive decarbonisation of our operations & value chain,
- Integrate climate risk and opportunity management into our business, and
- Drive sustainable buildings & infrastructure.
These pillars are underpinned by strategies and roadmaps to achieve our objectives and targets.
Securing the equivalent of 100% renewable electricity for Sydney Airport
Sydney Airport will achieve the eqivalent of 100% renewable electricity from 1 January 2025 through a combination of onsite solar PV and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the procurement of renewable electrcity with large scale generation certificates which match/offset Sydney Airport's consumption.

Flood and heat modelling
Sydney Airport has undertaken extensive modelling to assess a range of climate change scenarios (inc. Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 2.6, 4.5, 8.5) to quantify the risks of extreme heat and flooding to Sydney Airport and to recommend strategies and actions to mitigate these risks.

Climate Disclosures
Sydney Airport has issued annual disclosures aligned with the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) since 2018. From 2025, we will be progressing to the new Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards.

Sustainability in the Built Environment
In 2024, Sydney Airport launched its Built Environment Sustainability (BES) Standards which seek to deliver sustainable development practices across all stages of building afrastructure projects and Sydney Airport. The BES standards define both mandatory minimum requirements as well as optional requirements for aspiring towards enhanced sustainability outcomes on development projects at Sydney Airport
