Sydney Airport Jobs Fair opens career pathways

More than 3,000 job seekers filled Terminal 1 International last week as Sydney Airport hosted its annual Jobs Fair, bringing the community face-to-face with hundreds of career opportunities across the airport precinct.

Thousands of jobs for the community

With over 30 major employers on site, including Qantas, Certis, Australian Border Force, Heinemann Oceania, the Australian Federal Police, Air Services Australia and Plaza Premium Lounge Australia, the Jobs Fair showcased the huge variety of careers available. From aviation operations and security to retail, hospitality and border services, there were opportunities for every stage of a career, with some employers even recruiting on the spot.

A vital engine for the NSW economy

Sydney Airport is one of the state’s largest employment hubs, supporting more than 35,500 on-site jobs today (with most living within 10km of the airport), with a further 20,000 roles projected over the next 20 years.

In 2024, the airport contributed $45.3 billion in total economic activity and facilitated more than 354,800 full-time equivalent jobs across New South Wales, demonstrating just how important the airport is to both the local community and the state’s future.

Opening doors for local students

For the first time, the event also welcomed more than 250 local high school students and careers advisers from schools including Tempe HS, Marrickville HS, Kingsgrove HS, Port Hacking HS, Jannali HS, Endeavour Sports HS, Georges River College and Marist College Kogarah.

Delivered in partnership with the NSW Department of Education’s Regional Industry Education Partnerships (REIP) program, the student sessions gave young people direct exposure to the world of aviation and its diverse career pathways.

Trevor Adams, Senior Project Officer for REIP, said: “Engaging directly with employers at the Sydney Airport Jobs Fair gives students more than just a chance at a role. It helps them understand the wider job market, explore pathways they may not have considered, and align their aspirations with real industry demand.”

Building careers, building futures

Sydney Airport CEO, Scott Charlton, said: “We’re proud to host our fourth annual Jobs Fair, which continues to connect people in our community with meaningful careers at the nation’s busiest gateway.

The airport precinct already supports more than 35,000 jobs, and with thousands more to come over the next two decades, events like this are about making sure our community can share in that growth.

Aviation is a diverse industry with opportunities ranging from skilled trades and apprenticeships through to professional roles, and Sydney Airport is committed to ensuring those pathways remain accessible and inclusive for everyone.”
