Cronulla Cronulla

Sydney Airport supporting Cronulla SLSC and popular Shark Island Swim

In a show of local support, Sydney Airport has signed on as a Silver Sponsor of the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club (CSLSC), marking the beginning of a vibrant three-year commitment that celebrates community, water safety, and the spirit of surf lifesaving.

This exciting collaboration kicks off with Sydney Airport becoming the naming rights sponsor of the Club’s flagship fundraising event, the iconic Shark Island Swim. Now proudly titled the Sydney Airport Shark Island Swim, the event will take place on 1 February 2026 at 10am, drawing nearly 1,000 swimmers to the pristine waters off Cronulla Beach. The swim, now in its 39th year, is a cornerstone of the Club’s fundraising efforts and a beloved tradition for locals and visitors alike.

Sydney Airport’s commitment totals $36,000 over three years, with $12,000 contributed annually to support the Club’s lifesaving initiatives, volunteer programs, and community engagement. This sponsorship strengthens the Club’s ability to serve the community year-round.

A proud legacy of saving lives at Cronulla

Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1907 and has a rich history in both lifesaving and competition.

The Club patrols Cronulla Beach between September and April and over the course of each season our club members provide over 13,000 of volunteer hours, perform over 100 rescues, provide over 200 first aid cases, undertake over 1000 preventative actions and care for numerous lost children.

Lifesaving is the Club’s core responsibility and it is with great pride and satisfaction that our members can say that there have been "no lives lost" whilst we have been on patrol.

“We’re delighted to welcome Sydney Airport as a Silver Sponsor of our Club,” said Ken Rosebery, Sponsorship & Fundraising Committee and Patrol Captain at Cronulla SLSC.

“This partnership feels especially meaningful because so many SYD employees live here in the Shire. They’re part of our community and their support is a direct investment in the safety and wellbeing of the place we all call home. Sydney Airport’s commitment helps us continue the vital volunteer work our Club has carried out for generations and run iconic events like the Shark Island Swim. We’re proud to have them alongside us for the next three years.”

Supporting our local community

Sydney Airport’s sponsorship of Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club is an investment in the community where many of its employees live, work, and raise their families. As one of the region’s largest employers of over 35,000 workers across the precinct, Sydney Airport is committed to backing local initiatives that also support our people...

The commitment of $36,000 over three years is helping to ensure the continued success of the Club’s lifesaving programs and its flagship event, the popular Shark Island Swim.

Josh Clements, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at Sydney Airport said: “Cronulla is right on the doorstep of Sydney Airport, and supporting our neighbouring communities is really important to us.

“So many people from all around the world come to Sydney to experience our world-class beaches, and it’s surf lifesaving volunteers who give up their time to keep everyone safe.

“We’re proud to support Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club and the iconic Shark Island Swim.”
